In the first month of the Trump presidency, international trade is headline news.  US trade policy towards the European Union is particularly in the spotlight, with threats of higher tariffs on German cars, and penalties for US manufacturers that move factories and jobs abroad.  Last summer’s Brexit vote in the UK, and recent Trump administration statements regarding trade with Europe call into question some basic, long-standing assumptions of US-EU trade.  Changes in trade policy on both sides of the Atlantic, including higher tariffs and other import barriers could disrupt supply chains, and affect export opportunities in Europe for Wisconsin and other Midwest-area companies.
MITA welcomes two expert and dynamic speakers to its March 17 noontime program on US-EU trade relations:
Ms. Jennifer Riccardi is Senior Advisor in the Trade and Agriculture Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the US.  Her responsibilities include trade policy, trade and currency issues, and outreach to US states; she is an engaging and informative speaker on these issues.
Prof. Mark Copelovitch is Associate Professor of Political Science, and the LaFollette School of Public Affairs at University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He is an astute observer of the EU, its internal functioning, and its relations with its trade partners.
Join MITA, its members and guests for a stimulating discussion of the institutions, processes, people and trends in US-EU trade relations, and things to watch for in the coming months as the US and the EU reassess and possibly re-set their trade relationship.
