Spain, with a GDP of USD 1.2 trillion and a population of 46.4 million people, is the fourth largest economy in the Eurozone. Major initiatives in the past four years have made Spain much more competitive in comparison to costs and doing business that the other European countries.
The Spanish Trade Commission in Chicago promotes business ties between Spain and the Midwest.  The Trade Commissioner is visiting Madison to compare notes with decision and policy-makers regarding the current state of the economy and key industries for Wisconsin and Spain. The topics of interest include transportation, innovation, jobs, investment, incentives, regional policy, etc.

Mr. Javier Yraola assumed the post of Trade Commissioner of Spain in Chicago in September 2015. Previously, he was Director of Consumer Goods at ICEX (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness), a position he took after four years at the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs, where he was Deputy Director General for Trade and Customs Affairs. He has also served as trade Commissioner of Spain in Colombia and Central America for ten years, and early in his career he worked on European Union Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
